Connect for the first time
Make your first VPN connection, choose a location and learn what each connection status means.
Updated
- Open LuraVPN and sign in.
- Leave SmartConnect on to let the app choose the best server and protocol, or pick a place under Server location.
- Select the power button to connect. The status changes from Connecting… to Protected.
Choose a location
Search for a country, city or IP address, or press Command-K on a Mac (Ctrl+K on Windows) to search from anywhere in the app. Right-click a location to add it to your favorites. Locations marked Pro depend on your plan; see Plans for what each plan includes.
Choosing a location yourself turns SmartConnect off. To change location, disconnect first.
What the status means
- Protected: the app has confirmed every protection for this connection.
- Protection limited: you’re connected, but not every protection could be confirmed. See Understanding Protection limited.
- Reconnecting…: the connection dropped and the app is restoring it.
- Connection failed: the app couldn’t connect. See When your VPN won’t connect.
Connect automatically
In Preferences › General, turn on Start on Boot to open LuraVPN when your computer starts, and Auto-Connect on Launch to connect as soon as it opens.
